FREEZING DRIZZLE SLICKENS WESTERN IOWA ROADWAYS
(Des Moines) Freezing drizzle that's moving north and east across Iowa is making travel hazardous.
In western Iowa's Pottawattamie County, several vehicles had slipped off Interstate 80, and travelers bound for Omaha to the west were halted in their tracks.
The Iowa Department of Transportation roadways map showed highways were completed covered with ice in much of southwest Iowa.
In northwest Iowa, a dispatcher in the Woodbury County Sheriff's Office says the slickened streets hadn't yet caused schools to close. She also says she hadn't yet sent deputies to handle any weather-related accidents, but she was expecting the calls to start soon.
The dispatcher would not give her name.
