WINTER STORM HEADING THIS WAY
(Des Moines) A Winter Storm Warning is now in effect for Harrison, Shelby, Pottawattamie and Mills Counties until 6:00 a.m. Wednesday.
According to the National Weather Service, A strong winter storm will bring snow and blowing snow to the area through tomorrow night. Although freezing drizzle and fog will occur across parts of the area this morning snow is expected to spread over the area this afternoon. Occasional snowfall will continue tonight and through the day tomorrow with a total accumulation of 6 to 8 inches. In addition to the snow, winds will increase through the event with north winds of 15 to 30 miles per hour with gusts near 35 miles per hour expected. This will lead to considerable blowing and drifting snow further reducing visibilities. To make matters worse and arctic high pressure will be building into the region with very cold temperatures’ expected. This will combine with the winds to produce dangerous wind chills.
A Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for the rest of the area until noon Tuesday. A Winter Storm watch is now in effect from tomorrow afternoon through Wednesday morning.
