(DES MOINES) The spike in gasoline pump prices last weekend was a bit of a surprise to energy analysts like Harold Hommes with the Iowa Department of Agriculture. He says given the current factors in the energy market, it was a bit of a surprise.
“We saw motor gas output at refineries increase slightly, but inventories have also increased, so this one is a little bit interesting,” said Hommes.
Hommes says he found a dramatic drop in crude oil going into US refineries. That, he says, could be an early sign that refineries are entering their maintenance period, which normally gets underway in March.
