(DES MOINES) The Iowa Business Council’s latest “competitive index” shows steady economic factors in Iowa. Spokesman Elliott Smith says one area of slight improvement is in the state’s fiscal health.
“The level of state debt, as a percentage of our growth, has improved,” said Smith. “At the same time the level of local debt is getting a little worse and that’s a concern.”
He says the debt at the local level could lead to higher property taxes.
The IBC report also looks at education and workforce readiness, governance and fiscal matters, health and well being and workforce demographics and diversity.
