(DES MOINES) A winter storm watch is in effect from this evening through Wednesday morning for Cass, Adair, Madison, Adams, Union, Taylor and Ringgold counties.
The National Weather Service says rain will begin to change over to snow across central Iowa this evening and snowfall will persist throughout the overnight. The heaviest snowfall totals will be between 4 to 6 inches, though locally higher amounts are possible. Winds will increase through the evening and overnight hours. Winds will be between 20 to 25 mph with gusts as high as 35 mph overnight. Winds may combine with falling snow to reduce visibilities.
A winter weather advisory is in effect from 7 pm this evening to 9 am Wednesday morning for Mills, Montgomery, Fremont and Page counties.
Rain should change over to snow at around 7 pm and linger into Wednesday morning. Gusty northwest winds will increase to 20 to 30 mph by late evening and continue into the overnight hours. 2 to 4 inches of snow are forecast and is expected to blow around, reducing visibilities and creating some drifting.
