(Atlantic) Midwest Dental, in Atlantic, Dr. Mark Markham and Dr. Shawn Petersen are hosting a “Give Kids a Smile” program on February 1.
“This is a national program sponsored by The American Dental Association that provides from dental screenings for underserved kids in our area,” stated Lori Feistner, Midwest Dental Office Manager. “This program helps children that don’t have dental insurance or don’t have the means of getting to a dentist on a regular basis.”
The children will receive a free screening, exam, cleaning, possible fluoride and restoration, just depends on what the child needs.
“It is so good for children to develop good dental habits and get them into a chair and getting familiar with the dentist office,” said Feistner.
A total of nine Midwest Dental employees will be volunteering their time on February 1.
The American Dental Association began the “Give Kids a Smile” program in 2003 as a way for ADA members to join with others in the community to provide dental services to underserved children. The program initially began as a one-day event in February, but has since grown to local and national events year-round. Dentists and other team members volunteer their time, and services, to provide screenings, treatments and education to children throughout the United States. Each year, approximately 450,000 children benefit from more than 1500 events, all because of the efforts of 40,000.
