AMU's FOCUSING ON ENERGY COST SAVINGS
(Atlantic) The Atlantic Municipal Utilities is focusing on saving customers money in light of higher energy costs coming down the pike. Alan Bonderman, of AMU says the most current energy savings program is the installation of new lighting at the traffic lights at 7th and Chestnut Street.
“We started out slowly with some rebates for some different kinds of appliances and we are going to being looking more and more at those kinds of programs in the coming years, “ stated Bonderman. “Because the costs of producing electricity and transmitting is increasing rapidly and we are concerned about the effect that is going to have on our customers.”
Bonderman says the current traffic lights on 7th and Chestnut Streets are equipped with standard incandescent light bulbs, which range from 160 to 170 watts each. The new LED bulbs, however, will range from three to eight watts, which will save the city about $9,000 per year.
