(Greenfield) Iowa Governor Terry Branstad laid out his budget plan this week.
Greenfield Republican Representative Clel Baudler says the Governor plans to spend 4.3-percent more than last year. Baudler says the only problem is the budget does not include allowable growth for any additional money for state employee salaries that are currently under negotiations.
“I can tell you this, the House Republicans are not going to spend more money than we take in and we will not use one-time money for ongoing expenses,” stated Baudler. “It absolutely will not happen. After you break it down the current funding surplus is just money that was over collected.
Right now, Baudlers’ main concern is the dry weather. “If the drought continues into this summer and fall like it did last year we could be in a lot of trouble as a state. Because the farm economy is what has kept this state solvent.”
