(NEOLA) The Pottawattamie County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a Neola man.
Pottawattamie County Sheriff Jeff Danker says deputies were dispatched to a residence on 2nd Street in Neola just after 3:00 am on Sunday to assist Neola Volunteer Fire and Rescue personnel with a man that had reportedly fallen from an exterior door.
Witnesses say 26-year-old Mathew McDonald fell approximately 9 to 11 feet from the main level of the residence to the ground. The deck that was on the exterior side of the door had been removed and was not replaced at the time of the fall.
McDonald sustained severe head trauma as a result of the fall. He was transported to Mercy Hospital in Council Bluffs where he later died. The Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the matter.
