(Des Moines) Iowa has about a 9-inch rainfall deficit right now, and there doesn’t appear to be a big improvement in the near future.
“More than likely we are going to have some type of drought condition this spring, it’s just a matter of the severity of that drought condition,” Stated National Weather Service Hydrologist Jeff Zogg.
Zogg says the recent big snow will add some moisture when it melts, but not enough. He also notes we can’t really count on our neighbors to the north to send much into the watershed, as it’s dry in Minnesota too…and any melting snow will soak-in, rather than head in our direction.
