Iowa’s State Fire Marshall Rey Reynolds says he is hoping to see a decline in the number of house fires in Iowa this year. Reynolds says a good ole fashion check of the house smoke alarm may do the trick.
“I think that’s kind of a common thing in Iowa households when we install smoke alarms, we see that really only about 10% of homes have actual working smoke alarms,” said Reynolds. “So really the fire prevention plans for most Iowans is luck and we think we can do better than that.”
Reynolds suggests bringing in the New Year with a new battery for at least one or more smoke alarms in your home may save a life.
