(Atlantic) Motorists will have to brush up on their Winter Weather driving skills Wednesday and Thursday as the season’s first Winter Weather event is expected to blow through Southwest beginning Wednesday afternoon.
“We could see several inches of snow starting Wednesday afternoon into Thursday morning,” stated Craig Cogil, with the National Weather Service in Des Moines.
Cogil said over six inches of snow is possible along with strong northwest winds which are forecast to develop Wednesday night and continuing into Thursday.
“Considerable blowing and drifting snow appears likely at this time.”
A low pressure system will move through Kansas, Northern Missouri and Illinois bringing with it a chance for a white Christmas.
A winter storm watch is in effect for southwest Iowa from Wednesday afternoon through Thursday.
