(Elk Horn) The Exira and Elk Horn Kimballton School Boards continue on the path for re-organization.
Tuesday night both boards approved a petition for reorganization by unanimous vote. The petition states that all assests and liabilities of both districts will be merged.
Exira/Elk Horn/Kimballton Schools Superintendent Dean Schnoes says the following steps are complete including; whole-grade sharing, the initiatives as far as the intent are complete, as well as the next step, which is gathering petitions approved last night by both boards.
Currently, the Exira and Elk Horn-Kimballton school districts are whole-grade sharing. The final step will be a vote by the communities to decide whether or not to reorganize into one school district. The magic number according to Schnoes is July 1, 2014. He says that would be an ultimate day to get reorganization taken care of.
Schnoes has stated that if the schools consolidate, the tax breaks go from $5.40 to $4.40 per 1,000 dollars of valuation, to $4.90 to $5.15 then to $5.40 per thousand dollars of valuation.
