(Des Moines) Above average temperatures continue to be the trend as the calendar heads towards the second week of December.
Jim Lee with the National Weather Service in Des Moines says the month started out with a bang. On Monday temperatures were among the warmest ever recorded during the entire month of December.
Keokuk reached a temperature of 73 degrees and the warmest temperature ever recorded anywhere in the state in December is 74 degrees.
Lee points out that the unseasonably warm weather has been common for nearly two years, saying that 17 of the last 21 months have been above average.
More seasonable weather appears to be on its way. Lee predicts a chance of snow this weekend if temperatures cool off.
