(Harlan) The Harlan Community Education Foundation is half way to their goal of raising $2.1 million dollars. In September, the Harlan Community Education Foundation launched a fundraising campaign to raise all private money to renovate facilities and satisfy classroom needs. Harlan Community Schools Superintendent Justin Wagner says the Foundation has raised currently $1-million.
“This is the first time the Education Foundation has taken the lead on a fundraising effort and the community has been absolutely wonderful,” stated Wagner. “Our second goal is to try and raise the money by December 31, and it is kind of an aggressive goal, but we have some timelines that we need to meet in order to move forward on some things.”
One-point-five-million dollars of the money would be used to renovate Merrill Field which will include; field turf, a new track, new bleachers, fencing, lights and the scoreboard. The balance of the funds will be used for Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics initiative, and band and vocal music needs.
