(Atlantic) The Atlantic Chamber’s “Scrooge” contest wraps up today. Atlantic Executive Chamber Director Megan Roberts says the candidate that raises the most money for the “Food Pantry,” will be named Grand Marshall of the Christmas Lighted Parade that begins at 6:00 p.m.
“We have five great candidates for our scrooge contest this year,” stated Roberts, “including; Frank Rizzo, KSOM, Melanie Petty, Atlantic Feed Water Systems, Mark Jacobsen, First United Methodist Church, Greg Franken, McAtee Tire, and Bruce Kreutzer, Mahle Engine Components. And all the money that is raised goes to the Atlantic Food Pantry.”
Roberts says the annual fundraiser usually brings in somewhere from $10,000 to $12,000.
“The ladies that work at the Atlantic Food Pantry are all volunteers and this fundraiser carries them through a good portion of the year,” Roberts said. “Last year they had so much food and donations during the contest they actually had to store it off sight until that had room at the food pantry.”
Prior to the parade on Saturday, there will be carriage rides, Santa will be in his cabin from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., as well as the living window displays which open up at 5:00 p.m. in downtown Atlantic.
A fireworks display will kick off the parade at 6:00 p.m.
