(Exira) Exira and Elk Horn-Kimballton school district patrons are invited to two committee school re-organization question and answer sessions. The first one is tonight in the Middle School Lunchroom at Exira. The second meeting is November 29th at the High School Lunchroom in Elk Horn.
“We have done the Whole-Grade Sharing and its’ very nice to have the supplemental money, it’s nice to use teachers from both districts, and it has been a very good thing for both communities,” stated Exira/Elk Horn-Kimballton Schools Superintendent Dean Schnoes. “However, the thing that I am worried about is come June 30, 2014, the legislature is going to disallow any supplemental waiting money for Whole-Grade Sharing.”
Schnoes says the next best thing would be to get a property tax reduction, and the only way to get that would be if the two schools decided to re-organize. He says the next step after the question and answer sessions, is to circulate petitions so a vote can be put in front of the two districts the second Tuesday in April.
“If it doesn’t pass it will still give us time to figure out what to do to make it pass a second time,” Stated Schnoes. “And even if it does pass, there is still a lot of paper work that has to be done before combining the two districts. So we have a lot of work to do and its’a good time to find out what question the community members have.”
The meeting tonight at the Exira Middle School Lunchroom starts at 7:00 p.m. The November 29th community meeting at the Elk Horn High School lunchroom also starts at 7:00 p.m.
