(Des Moines) A group of Iowa scientists on Monday warning that more drought and more flooding could be in your future. Professor David Courard-Hauri of Drake University says 138 faculty and staff from 27-Iowa colleges and universities signed on to the “Iowa Climate Statement: The Drought of 2012.”
“If we don’t face a choice between our economy and the planet, the choices between the causes and affects of climate change, or we will be spending more money cleaning up from events like we have for the past several years,” stated Courard-Hauri.
And Professor Jerry Schnoor of the University of Iowa says their statement is a call to action…a call to transition Iowa from a dependence on fossil fuels to cleaner, more renewable energy.
“We need to expand solar and bio-mass energy, co-generation and combined heat and power, and use Iowa is a place to grow things and that means we can use our bio-mass to fuel and power our economy,” said Schnoor.
