(Lake City) Four people died in an early morning house fire in Lake City Tuesday.
A Lake City Police Officer began investigating suspicious smoke in downtown Lake City at around 1:40 a.m. The Officer tracked the smoke to a residence located at 703 South Illinois Street and by the time Officers arrived the house was fully engulfed in flames, but Officers could not gain access to the house because of the intense heat and smoke. The Lake City Fire Department put out the fire and it was learned that there were four people trapped inside the residence.
The Iowa State Fire Marshall’s Office is investigating the fire and the names and identities of the victims are being withheld at this time pending notification of relatives.
