(DES MOINES) The Administrative Rules Review Committee is scheduled to vote on an idea proposed by the Iowa Board of Parole.
It wants to reduce from five to three the number of votes needed from the Board to grant parole to a so-called high risk inmate. But, the Board is also suggesting new risk assessments be conducted that would help predict whether an inmate would commit another crime if that person was released from prison.
There has been some opposition to the plan with those in that camp arguing just three votes instead of five could raise the safety risks to the public.
