(ATLANTIC) The Atlantic Hy-Vee is hosting their annual free breakfast for veterans this morning.
“It’s a pleasure for us to be able to say thank you to those that have given to our country,” said Amy Jordahl, Atlantic Hy-Vee Store Director. “The great thing about it is, when you sit down and you just listen to the stories and the memories and the camaraderie it’s so heartwarming to know the sacrifice that they gave and that they are here enjoying it and seeing each other.”
Jordahl said they have folks from Operation Barnabas helping this year and the 2nd graders at Washington Elementary school made placemats, so they colored over 200 placemats for the veterans to enjoy while they are having their free breakfast.
Rich Kanning says Operation Barnabas is a faith based service organization that serves military members and veterans.
“It’s a super thing that Hy-Vee is doing for the veterans every Veterans Day,” said Kanning. “We’re here helping direct traffic and get folks to their tables and help those that can’t negotiate a tray and a walker and get them to their seat and things like that.”
The Hy-Vee breakfast for veterans ends at 11 am.
