(COUNCIL BLUFFS) Approximately 90 pounds of marijuana was discovered in a traffic stop in Pottawattamie County Wednesday.
Pottawattamie County Sheriff Jeff Danker said Deputy Miller stopped an eastbound Toyota Tundra near the 5 mile marker on Interstate 80 for speeding at around 11:25 am. Danker said Miller spoke with the driver, who seemed really nervous.
“The vehicle was from Connecticut and the driver said he had gone to Oregon and was on his way back to Connecticut. As Deputy Miller was talking to him the driver seemed extremely nervous, his hands were shaking and as he was talking to him some of the things didn’t quite add up, didn’t sound logical,” said Danker. “Deputy Miller requested to search the vehicle and the driver denied him the search. Deputy Miller deployed his canine Francisco and did a free-air sniff around the vehicle. As he did that, Francisco indicated on the bed of the pickup.”
Danker said Miller searched the bed of the pickup and found three duffel bags that had vacuum sealed packages of marijuana in them.
The driver of the pickup, 30-year-old Andrew Ducharme, of Gilford, Connecticut, was arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance with Intent to Deliver Marijuana, Tax Stamp Violation and Prohibited Acts. Ducharme has bonded out of the Pottawattamie County Jail.
