(CLARINDA) Several hay bales were destroyed in a fire southwest of Clarinda this morning.
The Clarinda Fire Department was called to 2311 Maple Street, approximately 5 miles southwest of Clarinda, at around 8:32 a.m. for big round hay bales on fire. Approximately 15 bales were destroyed. These bales were baled approximately 30 to 45 days ago and stacked together. They were valued at approximately $100 a piece.
The cause of the fire has been determined to be spontaneous combustion. Several other bales were moved from the fire area that were not damaged. The bales were owned by Wellhausen Farms.
