(ATLANTIC) As part of the Governor’s initiative to make Iowa a healthier State, a one-kilometer Healthiest State Walk will be held in Atlantic on October 3rd.
Jolene Smith, Event Coordinator, said the walk will begin at noon at the Schildberg Park Lake #3 west parking lot, rain or shine.
“You can walk around Lake 3 and then around Lake 1 and it’s a mile and a half or just around Lake 3 and it’s 1.2 miles, and if you just want to walk around Lake 1 it’s ¾ of a mile,” explained Smith. “You have different walking areas that you can walk, you don’t have to walk the whole mile and a half, but just mainly to get out and get some exercise.
Smith says even if you can’t make it to this walk, try to get out any time on Wednesday and take a walk.
In 2011 Governor Terry Branstad and Lt. Governor Kim Reynolds announced plans to make Iowa the healthiest state in the nation within five years as measured by the Gallup-Healthways Well-Being Index. In 2011, Iowa ranked 16th compared to all other states, up from the 19th position in 2010.
