(Greenfield) Adair and Guthrie County Emergency Management Director Bob Kempf appeared in front of the Adair County Board of Supervisors’ this morning.
Kempf says the National Flood Plain mapping of southwest Iowa is moving forward and the Adair County Flood Plain map should be completed sometime in August of 2013 by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. At that time the unincorporated areas and the other city jurisdiction s of Adair County will have to make the decision of joining the National Flood Insurance Program.
Kempf encourages all of the Adair County Agencies to pull together and get all of their paper work in line so that when these maps become a reality they will be able to move forward with joining that program.
“We need to plan for the future and as things become available we need to forward with them,” stated Kempf.
Except for the city of Adair, the rest of Adair County has never been mapped for the flood plain. Those residents that fall into the new flood plain will now be eligible to purchase flood insurance through the federal government program which is quite a bit cheaper than trying to buy it commercially on their own.
