(Audubon) Troy Wessel with the Audubon Recreation Foundation presented the Audubon City Council with an update on the rec center fundraising effort at their meeting last night.
Wessel reiterated that once the money is raised for the construction of the building, the recreation center should be able to support itself.
The belief that a recreation center can sustain itself is based on a study of three similar recreation centers in other communities.
“The first three years each and every case they increased their revenue and they were profitable year two. We only have three years of data, but the sustainability, I’m confident that won’t be a concern, but we have to have the building paid for before we expect to run it.”
The recreation foundation kicked off their fundraising during T-Bone Days. They have a goal of $2 million.
