(Des Moines) A Cold Canadian high pressure is building into Iowa and is bringing light winds and clear skies overnight, which will allow temperatures to fall to near record low readings by early Sunday morning. This has prompted the National Weather Service in Des Moines to issue a Freeze Warning from 1:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. Sunday.
Forecasters say overnight lows in the upper 20’s to lower 30’s are expected by early Sunday morning. A few locations over the northwest may reach 25 degrees.
Exposed plants and tender vegetation are likely to suffer freeze damage or be killed. People interested in protecting their plants need to take action by this evening.
A Freeze Warning means sub-freezing temperatures are imminent or highly likely. These conditions will kill crops and other sensitive vegetation.
