(Harlan) No open burning should be initiated today in Shelby County. The Shelby County Emergency Management Office is raising the Fire Danger Sign to the High Category today. Shelby County Emergency Management Director Bob Seivert says due to the wind conditions and low relative humidity, the Local Fire Danger Signs need to be adjusted today.
Sievert says “Red Flag” warnings are being posted for areas to our west; however, he does not expect Red Flag conditions here, however very close to that. Sievert expects the winds to shift to the NW this afternoon and if there are any active fires, they will monitor that component very closely.
The next local fire danger notice will be Monday September 24.
Unless an unexpected change in conditions occur.
