(Marne) Traffic was backed up for a little over 2 ½ hours in the eastbound lanes near the 50.5 mile marker of Interstate 80 this morning. An Interstate Battery Truck tipped over at a little after 6:30 this morning blocking both lanes of traffic.
“We received a report of a truck overturned on Interstate 80 with it’s contents spilled out at around 6:35 a.m., said Cass County Emergency Management Director Mike Kennon. “When we arrived the truck was on its’ side blocking traffic with approximately 150-batteries dumped out on the Interstate.”
He says the Iowa Department of Natural Resources was on scene to oversee the acid cleanup. Kennon says the acid was far enough from a waterway so cleanup crews were able to dilute it down with water.
Kennon says the driver, identified as 23-Blaze Anthony Gill, of Sioux City, Iowa, was was not hurt.
