(ATLANTIC) The Cass County Board of Supervisors approved claims and discussed plans for the Amaizing Energy property during a short meeting this morning.
Duane McFadden, Supervisors Chairman, says this was a follow up discussion after Kathy Showalter, of PlanScape Partners, presented a proposal from Fagen, Inc. to purchase the property to open a cellulosic bio-ethanol plant.
“We discussed what we’re going to have to do to try to maintain the infrastructure to be built there and have the jobs for the community,” explained McFadden. “No decision, just discussion.”
McFadden said a public hearing will be set at a later date to discuss tax abatement on the property. Showalter told the Supervisors at the August 31st meeting that they are asking for the same assistance that was offered to Amaizing Energy, which was 50 % of the TIFF, or tax abatements in an enterprise zone, so it would qualify for a tax abatement.
