(Anita) Iowa Connections Academy will hold a Kick Off The School Year Open House tomorrow (Friday).
Iowa Connections Academy is a public virtual school and students of the school are enrolled in grades K-12 in the CAM or Clayton Ridge School Districts. Principal James Brauer says teachers and students have been getting to know each other online and on the phone. The kick-off event will build on those relationships and offer a way for student to meet their teachers and fellow students in person. Brauer says over 200 students are enrolled and they’ve signed up for a variety of reasons,
“Just wanting an option, wanting to try something different, some of our families are very enthusiastic about a 21st century more technological approach. Some students come from families where home schooling is a big option and they like the idea of having a curriculum that can supplement what the family may be doing at home and then knowing that we now have certified teachers that will be able to work with them through an entire curriculum leading up to an accredited diploma.”
Students in the online school learn in several different ways. All students have an in home learning coach and an online instructor. The Academy feels one of the strengths is being able to better assess the student’s individual needs.
The Kick-Off Open House will be held at the Anita Community Center at 805 Main Street from 3:00 to 6:00 p.m. tomorrow (on Friday.) It will be followed by a tour of the Teaching Center.
