(Emerson) An Emerson native died while in the line of duty in Afghanistan.
Family members told the Omaha World Herald that 25-year-old Army Sgt. James Skallberg, a graduate of Nishna Valley High School died while serving his country.
The Department of Defense had not yet publicly confirmed Sgt. Skallbergs death. Department policy is to wait 24-hours after the family has been notified to announce a death.
The Omaha paper says 145 military members with ties to Nebraska and Western Iowa have died in the Afghan and Iraq wars.
