(Des Moines) “Disastrous” is the comment from Iowa Governor Terry Branstad in reference to the Supreme Court ruling today that says Health Care Reform and the individual mandate are constitutional.
Branstad issued a statement claiming the Higher Court ruling means future higher costs, higher taxes, and increasing debt for Iowans. He adds that the current health care system is nothing but a federal takeover and continues to exceed its budgeted amount every day.
Meanwhile the ruling has brought a sigh of relief to some in the health care field, like Iowa Health System C-E-O Bill Leaver.
“I think the insurance reform and the individual mandate really created a different playing field for employers, for the commercial insurance companies, that probably over the long-term Congress will tweak,” stated Leaver.
Leaver says the decision continues to move the country forward on the path to a different health system that includes a different way to pay for it and will bring savings to the federal government and individuals in the long run.
