(Atlantic) Many people headed out to their local swimming pools today to get relief from the heat. Melanie Dunphy, Atlantic Municipal Swimming Pool Manager, says she has several guards on hand.
“We always have 5 to 6 guards on hand and then we go by ratio, so it‘s one guard per 20 people. So if we have 40 people in the pool then we’re going to have 2 to 3 guards up. We really just place the guards where people are in the pool,” said Dunphy.
And Dunphy says hourly breaks are taken to rest the swimmers and the lifeguards.
“There are breaks at 10 minutes to the hour, every hour, and then we have one guard up during that time because we still do let adults stay in the water during that time, but the guards are on a rotation, so they get about a 20 minute break,” explained Dunphy.
Melanie Dunphy says they have sold a lot of season pool passes this year, and they are still available. The cost of a family pass is $105.00, and a single pass is $70.00. The pool hours are from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. seven days a week
