(Lewis) The Lewis Celebration is tomorrow and one of the featured attraction’s in the parade is a 20x32 foot bike built by Duane Weirich of Weirich Welding. He came up with the idea a year ago when he found out RAGBRAI was coming through Lewis, and it was a big hit. People from all over the country marveled at the large bike on display on the Elementary School grounds.
Parade goers Saturday morning will have a chance to see the bike in the parade that starts at 10:30 a.m. A dinner is planned Saturday evening at 6:00 p.m. at the spacious Lewis Community Building and Duane Weirich has thrown down a challenge.
“We have enough meat for 200-people and we have 200-people at the meal Saturday evening, I am going to ride the bicycle again Saturday night,” said Weirich, who wants the meat gone before he rides the bike. The meal starts at 6:00 p.m.
If Weirich can ride the bike 1,000 feet, it could be a Guiness Book of World record for the distance traveled by the largest bicycle in the world.
