(Vail ) The family of Jonathan Elwell, of Pennsylvania believes his body was discovered along the railroad tracks near Vail, Iowa. Family members of the man that has been missing since April released a formal statement to the media Thursday.
Crawford County Sheriff Jim Steinkuhler would not reveal what authorities relayed to the Elwell family, but he did not discourage them from releasing a statement.
A sister of the missing man said family members are “extremely confident” that the body is that of her brother.
Jonathan Elwell, originally from Shillington, PA., was last seen in that state on April 17. His rented Volkswagon Jetta was discovered about two-miles west of Westside on a Crawford County gravel road.
Union Pacific Railroad workers found the body Tuesday along the tracks approximately two miles from where the car was found. The body was too decomposed for investigators to determine age or gender at the scene.
The body was sent to the State Medical Exmaniner’s Office for an autopsy.
