(Holstein) Two people were killed and two others were injured Monday afternoon in a three vehicle accident in Ida County.
The Iowa State Patrol says, 55-year-old Michael Hengel, of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and 38-year-old Cory Severson, of Pine Grove, Wisconsin were killed in the crash that occurred at around 1:25 p.m. on Highway 20 near Harvest Avenue. The injured are identified as 45-year-old Oscar Alonzo, of Miami, Florida, and 55-year-old Jeffrey MacGregor, of Spencer, Iowa.
The Iowa State Patrol says all three vehicles were westbound on Highway 20. Traffic was stopped to wait for a Pilot car in a construction zone when a 2007 Freightliner semi-tractor trailer, driven by Alonzo failed to stop and rear ended a Pontiac G6, driven by Hengel forcing the car into another Semi-Tractor trailer, driven by MacGregor.
Michael Hengals vehicle rolled on the road and became engulfed in flames killing Hengel and his passenger Cory Severson.
Oscar Alonzo was transported by Holstein Ambulance to Horn Memorial Hospital in Ida Grove. Jeffrey MacGregor was not transported.
The accident remains under investigation. Authorities do not believe alcohol or drugs were involved in the accident that remains under investigation.
The Iowa State Patrol was assisted by the Ida County and Carroll County Sheriff’s Offices, and Holstein Fire and Ambulance.
