(Sioux City) The Sioux City Police Department says 23-year-old James Kroll has been charged with murder, attempted murder and burglary after police say he broke into a home at 503 39th Place at 3 a.m. Wednesday morning and attacked the 54-year-old residents.
“The investigation revealed and later developed that the party that has been arrested, James Kroll had used a crowbar to assault both victims,” stated Sioux City Lt. Mark Kirkpatrick. The male victim has succumbed to those injuries.”
Lt. Kirkpatrick says 54-year-old Jeffrey Morevek died at the hospital. The condition of the other victim, Mary Tope is not known. Tope’s 20-year-old daughter was in the home at the time but was not attacked. Kirkpatrick says the victims knew Kroll, but wouldn’t comment on the motive.
