(ATLANTIC) The Cass County Board of Supervisors approved the 1st reading of the Cass County Illegal Dumping Ordinance at their meeting this morning.
The purpose of the ordinance is to prohibit illegal dumping in public places and on private property within the unincorporated areas of Cass County and to promote health, safety and general welfare in the unincorporated areas of Cass County.
As described in the ordinance, dumping is to intentionally or unintentionally abandon, deposit, discard, drop, place, scatter, or throw any garbage, litter, refuse, rubbish, rubble, solid waste or waste building materials; to intentionally or unintentionally allow to be abandoned, deposited, discarded, dropped, placed, scattered or thrown any garbage, litter, refuse, rubbish, rubble, solid waste or waste building materials as a result of a person’s failure to not properly secure, tie-down or cover said materials while transporting same for disposal.
Fines for illegal dumping would range from $100 to $1,000, depending on the amount of that was dumped and whether it is a first or second offense.
The Supervisors will hold the second reading and adoption of the ordinance at their meeting next week.
