(EARLHAM) An arrest has been made in connection with a shooting in Madison County early this morning.
According a press release from the Madison County Sheriff’s Office, Deputies conducted a search warrant at a residence in Desoto and arrested 22-year-old Nicholas Clayton on a charge of Willful Injury. Clayton is being held in the Madison County Jail and additional charges are pending.
At around 4:55 a.m., the Madison County Sheriff’s Office was called to the 1900 block of 105th Streed (2 miles East of Earlham) after an adult female called 911 and reported a shooting.

When deputies arrived a short time later, an adult male, identified as 45-year-old Howard Clayton Jr., of Earlham, was located in the doorway of an outbuilding that is adjacent to his residence. Clayton who had suffered a gun-shot wound was transported by air ambulance to a Des Moines hospital where his condition is still unknown at this time. Howard is the father of Nicholas.
The investigation is still on-going at this time.
