(Omaha) An Omaha boy found unresponsive at Lake Manawa State Park in Council Bluffs died at a Council Bluffs hospital.
The Council Bluffs Police Uniform Division and the DNR were called to the Lake Manawa beach area at around 2:23 p.m. Wednesday afternoon. When they arrived CPR was in progress on 11-year-old Isaiah T. Griffin, of Omaha. Council Bluffs Rescue transported the boy to Mercy Hospital where he was pronounced dead.
Police say Isaiah was with a group of children and adults from Lydia House/Open Door Mission Camp on a swimming outing. Isaiah Griffin was swimming in a designated area playing football with other children when for an unknown reason he disappeared. He was found in approximately 4 feet of water by one of the counselors from the Lydia House and pulled to shore where they began CPR.
There were camp counselors along with a life guard on location at the time of the incident.
An autopsy is scheduled for Friday. At this time the incident appears to be accidental, but the investigation continues.
