(Atlantic) Motorists traveling East 22nd Street in Atlantic take note, there will soon be a change in the speed limit.
The Atlantic City Council approved the change on the third reading Wednesday which means the to speed limit will be reduced from 45-miles per hour to 35-miles per hour on East 22nd Street from Highway 71 to Olive Street.
The Community Protection Committee recommended this change after discussions with Atlantic Police Chief Steve Green who expressed his concerns with the traffic engineer’s recommendation that speed limit remain at 45-mph. Chief Green said that some residents who live on this section of street have expressed their concerns about the difficulty of pulling out of their driveways given the present speed.
In addition, he said that the pedestrian traffic on this road and the likelihood of more development and traffic in the future warrants the lowering of the speed limit on this section of 22nd Street from 45-mph to 35- mph.
The Community Protection Committee eventually agreed with Chief Green and recommended lowering the speed limit.
