(COUNCIL BLUFFS) The cause of death has been released on the Plattsmouth, Nebraska mother and her son who were found deceased near Lake Manawa in May.
The Council Bluffs Police Department says the manner of death for 41-year-old Charlotte Schilling and 10-year-old Owen Schilling is being classified as ligature/strangulation by use of a zip tie. Police say the official autopsy reports will not be available until toxicology testing is completed which may not be ready until mid to late June. Law enforcement is investigating the incident as a Murder/Suicide.
According to the report, Charlotte Schilling attempted suicide by the same method in November of 2011. Interviews with friends and associates of Charlotte have revealed recent actions consistent with those of a person contemplating suicide. Evidence located at the scene of their death support this.
Charlotte and Owen Schilling had been missing for nearly two weeks when their bodies were discovered on May 20th in a wooded area near Lake Manawa.
