(DES MOINES) Governor Terry Branstad phoned home today from him week long trip to China. He’s visiting with other state officials at the invitation of Vice President Ji Xin Ping, who came to Iowa earlier this year.
Branstad says the delegation is not only bolstering relations with the Chinese, but also saying thanks for an agreement signed while they were here.
“When Vice President Ji was in Iowa they purchased $4.3 billion worth of soybeans,” said Branstad. “About 1 in every 4 rows of soybeans planted in Iowa is now being sold here is China.”
Branstad and Iowa Economic Development Authority Director Debi Durham say the current visit has yielded some indications that the Chinese are about ready to make investments in the State’s bio economy.
