(HARLAN) A two-vehicle accident in Shelby County sent two people to the hospital this (Monday) morning.
The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office says the accident occurred on Highway 59 at 1600th Street. A 2012 Buick Enclave, driven by 61-year-old Kathy Block, of Harlan, was northbound on Highway 59 when she approached the intersection of 1600th. A 2005 Dodge Caravan, driven by 39-year-old Renee Parrott, of Kirkman, was westbound on 1600th and failed to yield. Both vehicle collided in the intersection and came to rest in the west ditch.
Parrott was pinned in the vehicle and had to be extricated. Both drivers were transported to Myrtue Memorial Hospital in Harlan by Medivac Ambulance. Parrot was later transported to Creighton Medical Center in Omaha for further treatment.
Both vehicles were a total loss. Renee Parrott was cited for Failure to Yield Upon Entering a Through Highway. The Harlan Fire Department and Westphalia Fire Department assisted the Sheriff’s Office at the scene.
