(Atlantic) Laena Frederickson of Atlantic has been selected to serve as an international ambassador of the United States to volunteer this summer with International Student Volunteers (ISV), a U.S. based non-profit organization, and is seeking sponsorships to do so.
ISV is a internationally recognized and awarded organization that appoints university students from the U.S., Canada, Australia and the U.K. to various countries around the world in an effort to impact entire communities and endangered habitats in need.
"I am so excited to have an opportunity to assist others in the world, but, as you may know, international travel can be somewhat costly," stated 21-year-old Laena Frederickson said. "This is why I am asking for your help. Your donation will go toward my program and travel cost (approx. $7,000), covering my accommodations’, meals, project materials, ground transportation and tour guidance.
Laena is finishing up her Junior year at UNO - Omaha and will graduate in 2013 with a degree in Family Science. She works two jobs while attending school and volunteers monthly at Ted E Bear Hollow, an organization which assists grieving children and teens with the death of a loved one. She has also volunteered with the open door mission in Omaha, helped collect food for the food pantry in Atlantic and helps plan and organize the Trevor Frederickson Memorial Golf Tournament every year. "Losing my brother was the worst thing that could have happened to me but I have chosen to take my sorrow and turn it around into positive actions. This is what he would have wanted me to do."
A fundraiser at the Super Bowl in Atlantic will be held on Friday, April 27th from 6:30pm until close. Laena will be working for tips only, along with a 50/50 raffle. Food, drinks and bowling will make for a fun, family friendly evening.
Donations can be mailed to Frederickson at 56535 Jasper Road, Atlantic, IA 50022. Checks should be made out to Laena Frederickson. All donations are tax deductible. For more information about ISV, visit www.isvolunteers.org
