(Anita) An Anita man who tried to disarm a Anita Police Officer was taken into custody Wednesday evening.
According to a press release from the Cass County Sheriff’s Office, 42-year Randall Wayne Lewis, of Anita faces charges of Threat of Terrorism, Possession of a Controlled Substance (Marijuana), Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, Interference with Official Acts, and Habitual Offender (two prior felony convictions).
The Anita Police Department and the Cass County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a fight involving a knife at 811 4th Street in Anita at around 7:30 p.m. When law enforcement arrived they were confronted by Lewis. When they attempted to subdue Lewis, he threatened officers and grabbed an officer’s gun from its holster. The gun was taken from Lewis and he was placed under arrest by the Anita Police Department for Disarming a Peace Officer of a Dangerous Weapon and Threat of Terrorism. A search warrant was subsequently performed on a property at 811 4th Street in Anita. Subsequently, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office charged Lewis with the named charges.
Lewis was being held this morning awaiting an appearance in front of a magistrate judge.
