(DES MOINES) Lawmakers in the House today (Tuesday) put their stamp on the Mental Health Redesign Bill and sent it back to the Senate for consideration. Ottumwa Democrat Mary Gaskill was a “no” vote.
“But now what you’re doing is picking winners and losers, and we’re the losers,” said Gaskill.
But, Marion Republican Nick Wagner argued the current system is unsustainable and unfair.
“Because we have the situation in Iowa today, because of where I live, I may not even get the medication I need but another Iowan in another part of the State is getting a free cell phone, that is not right,” said Wagner.
The Mental Health Redesign Bill passed the house (65 to 32) and now returns to the Senate.
