(Creston) Classes are to resume Wednesday at Southwestern Community College in Creston, Red Oak, and Osceola after a tornado caused significant damage Saturday night to the main campus in Creston. Dean of Students Matt Thompson says the community has bent of over backwards to help house all the students who lost housing when three of the four dorms on campus were damaged.
Thompson says they have had people in Creston that have stepped up and said, “I will take six students are my residence and will do whatever you need us to do. So we have been working with area residents to do that and we will have more students in hotels tonight.”
President Barb Crittenden says the recovery process has already come along way from the site on campus when daybreak hit on Sunday Morning. “There has been tremendous progress the last few days since that first light Sunday morning when we could really see the extent of the damage. The campus looks much better today; however we still have a long way to go before the campus is fully operational.”
Crittenden says in the remainder of the spring calendar should be unaffected.
