(Creston) It was a scary moment for many Creston residents Saturday evening when a tornado struck the city of 7,800 at about 6:45 p.m. The storm came in very fast according to Tim Sandquist, Dorm Coordinator at Southwest Community College in Creston.

Sandquist says there are about 300 displaced students; three of the four dorms (pictured) are still standing but windows are blown out, and the roofs of the three structures are scattered throughout the campus. The Southwestern Comunity College campuses in Creston, Red Oak, and Osceola are closed Monday and Tuesday due to storm damage.
The Creston High School Bus barn is in shambles and many residents on the north edge of the city sustained severe structural damage. The patients at the Greater Community Medical Center were evacuated following the storm and transported to Clark Community Hospital in Osceola.
The National Weather Service has two representatives investigating the damage and a report should be released later this afternoon.
